For The Night Draws Nigh

I made a coconut cream pie today. The real kind. With meringue.

For no reason, other than so Ty and I can eat it together at midnight tonight, which will be the first time I've seen him today, and the last time I'll see him before Sunday, most likely.

(must improve the shining moments, you know. And that, obviously, means pie)

For those of you who are struggling to feel sorry for me, let me share with you a snippet of a recent conversation I had with the kids about how we won't be seeing Daddy for a long time because he has just opened an assisted living facility, and is working two full-time jobs now (one without pay or benefits or days off - okay, neither job has days off, so that one is easy to get used to):

"...and so, my lovelies, Daddy isn't going to be around this summer, and we're not going on any vacations, and we're probably not even leaving the house because Mommy is too big of a wuss to take the three (four, counting Ruth) of you anywhere by herself, but we're going to make the most of it, smile, be sweet, be happy, eat lots of popsicles, and have a GREAT summer! Now, who's with me?"

This pep-talk rallied 2 of the 3 troops, but Sylas looked like a deflated Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon, all floppy, when he sniffled and said,

"I guess we can't be a family anymore."

Awwwww.

If you don't feel sorry for me now?

Well, I can't help you.

I do feel sorry for you. Guess this means we need to get together. Since my husband is always gone too we just need to join forces and do something fun! I will be seeing you this Sunday for sure so we'll have to talk about this! -Amy

awww...how sad! I am sorry your husband won't be around this summer. I do feel bad for you, I hate when my husband has to go away for the day. I hate being a grown-up and having to go to work, why can't we just play all day? :) Emily told me about your husband taking on this new job. I hope it picks up fast that way you can have him back!

Andrea I DO feel bad for you. You are such a good woman, and creative. I have no doubt that you will make the ablsolute BEST of this situation. You need to get on hulu in the lonely evenings and watch Kyle XY from the very begining. We have been SO sucked in. (and we're not tv people) you have to get passed the screwed up family. It is so entertaining though, that it isn't hard. and It's not trashy.. I would say it's a lot cleaner than say Friends or Frasier.. Ok, take two of these and call me in the morning.

Poor Kitty. Poor, poor kitty. (Remember that game?) I'm not cracking a smile though because it's not funny. I really do feel sorry for you.

I do feel for you, in the deepest sense. That little comment about not being a family anymore was so cute. I mean, really, what's the point of going on? :)

And am I missing something? Who's Ruth?

Awwwww . . . I do feel sorry for you. I wish you and your hubby the best of luck as you open the facility. I guess that means Amber and I need to take a road trip to your house!

I think we should come visit you sometime. Would that be okay?
