Gardening Fools

I know it's pretty late to be just starting our garden, but better late than never? I hope! We have been planning for a few months, but the weather and Ty's work schedule have never properly aligned, allowing us an opportunity to get the garden in...until this week. After calling every nursery in town, and some in neighboring towns, I found a place where we could buy compost and vermiculite. It was so expensive ($150, plus $10,000 for a new truck that Ty thinks he needs now, thanks to having to borrow someone else's truck for an hour...an event he hopes never to duplicate. He informs me that he feels, "naked" without a truck. Sigh.) and labor-intensive (don't let Mel fool ya), I told Ty that if we move, we're bagging up the soil from our garden boxes and taking it with us! I also spent the last three days searching every possible source for plants and seeds. It never dawned on me until this year that the reason you plant early is because if you don't, all the plants and seeds are already bought! We had to make considerable compromises in our planting plan, but I think we'll survive. The kids are pretty disappointed at not having peas or strawberries, but maybe next year. Oh, notice how nicely our hydroseed is coming! Fun, fuzzy green haze.

That's the fanciest box garden I've ever seen, Andy! We haven't planted ours yet either but a very reliable source (a guy that owns a greenhouse/garden supply store) said that in this valley don't even bother starting a garden until after Memorial day. He didn't say how LONG after Memorial day.....

I have a truck Ty can have for keeps! It's been well loved for it's 18 years of existence. It emits blue smoke out the pipe and the other day I couldn't get the thing unlocked because the locks wouldn't turn when I put the key in. I ended up bending my key. But hey, it's free and it's a 4x4!

Nice garden! I wanted to plant one when we moved in, but don't really know how to even get started! AHH! I am a dork...I guess I should quit being ignorant and learn how...is it too late though?

You are crazy. I always have this vision of what my backyard would look like with a beautiful garden. Then the reality check hits and I remember that I have no patience and absolutely no green thumb. Oh and I also don't have $150 for sophisticated soil. So please post many pictures of your beautiful garden so I can live vicariously through yours!
