Ol' Snake Eyes

proof of our differing opinions on the fun of birthday week

While we attended a wedding last Saturday, anniversary number eleven sneaked past security and disappeared in an anticlimactic ending to Birthday Week 2009*. I am mourning the loss of such a perfectly good reason to celebrate by declaring a do-over.

Sure, in a moment of uncharacteristic selflessness I suggested to Mister the idea of swapping our regularly scheduled anniversary trip for a new television, but he should know me well enough by now (MORE than a decade, after all) to realize that a t.v. does not equal a satisfactory observance of my love for him, let alone his love for ME. The purchase of an over-sized telly (yes, sometimes I wax British) fills not my husbandly-undivided-attention- sans-children quotient. Not even close.

So unless he throws new furniture into the equation, I'm afraid we are at an impasse.

At least until he takes me to dinner.

Somewhere good.

And says lots of extra cheesy, majorly romantic stuff.

Majorly. Romantic.

*C'mon, must I still spell it out for you? I'm a freak about my birthday, which is precisely six days before our anniversary, meaning AT LEAST one full week of festivities. Isn't it obvious to anyone else?

So let me get this straight. You DID get a new t.v. and didn't end up going on the anniversary trip you planned? You know my birthday and anniversary also fall within the same week and my husband, swell and wonderful as he is, freezes, not knowing quite what to do. The notion of having to show enough appreciation and love toward me to cover Mother's Day, Anniversary, AND my birthday within seven days brings on a week long coma. By the time he snaps out of it it's all over and done and life as usual. No....I shan't complain because he always comes to, long enough to write me the nicest love note and really that's all I need.
Hope you get what YOU need.

These men... can't live with them, can't live without them. Didn't we use to say that:) Well, I for one feel horrible, because I only facebooked you a happy birthday message. C'mon, what is up with that. I had every intention of writing you an actual email, but the day slipped away and now it's been over a week and still nothing from me. So I'm really sorry. I did think of you several times that day and thought, "I need to write her an email." I Just never put the thought into action, which is really the most important part. Everyone says, "it's the thought that counts" but I don't really believe it. So I'm sorry. I hope you get to have a re-do birthday week! Love ya!

I never thought I would be one of those girls who say "oh, don't get me anything b-days are no big deal" yet secretly wish the hubster would. B-days and anni's honestly were no big deal but sometime between then and now I kind of want a big deal. So, I am officially one of those girls. . .If anyone asks it really isn't a big deal.

I read this to Parley (my hubs) and he said we must be related. Why is that when we say "no presents" (or something similar) they REALLY think we mean no presents? Really?
If I were there I'd buy you a dollar cupcake and even put a candle in it because I am oh-so-thoughtful like that! Happy late birthday cousin! As for the anniversary...your man is on his own.

Oh, you are good. and this is why we all wait on the edge of our seats for your posts. Can't believe the "mister" didn't get it that if YOU say "new TV", then HE must reciprocate with an equally oversized anniversary romantic getaway...or at least dinner with many romantic words. :) Or flowers. At least flowers....they're not a waste of money like you think! They mean the world to me and I love to look at them....wait, it sounds like I've turned this into my problem...sorry.
And happy birthday! I had a dream about you last night. It was confusing.

Damian's birthday is 5 days before our anniversary and that is when he makes all of his annual goals which usually have something to do with saving money (boring) which always seems to put a damper on the anniversary celebration. Why can't he just plan at new years like the rest of us. Someone had it right when They planned the biggest commercial holiday at the very last moment before everyone would be making their "resolutions."
