I Went Swimming and All You Get is This Lousy Post

Today we went swimming.

It was one of those first minute decisions: The decisions I often make the instant I awake in the morning. I am being chased by wolves one second, and then BAM, the next second I have decided to drive to Lava Hot Springs for some last chance summer fun.

Most of my adventurous decisions are made in that first conscious minute of the day. It's when I feel the most superhuman, the most optimistic, and the most I-can-take-my-kids-to-the-mall-for-an-all-day-shopping-excursion.

(yeah, some first minute decisions are regrettable)

(but, for the most part, they keep me in good supply of lovely memories)

The most often occurring one is when I decide to go visit my sister, and THEN open my eyes. Makes me feel so thoughtful to know my priorities are sister: first, waking up: second.

I think this tendency (to plan trips a half an hour before departure time) is my body's way of dealing with my mind's overactive worry wheel.

If I try to plan ahead, sure as I'm 5'5", I will wake up on the "day of" with butterflies and bad feelings. And who am I to argue with bad feelings? I'm only 5'5", after all.

If I decide without time to nit-pick the details to death, I am more likely to execute (but not the kind where people are killed - just so we're clear).

And so, back to the front, we went swimming today.

Do YOU make first minute decisions? What DO you think about, first thing in the morning? I want to know.

p.s. I guest posted yesterday on my friend's blog. If you're interested.

"I'm not running" then I change the alarm. The second time I wake up it's "Do I HAVE to go to work today?"

I rarely make any decisions in the morning other than what kind of cereal should I eat for breakfast and do I want to eat it dry or with milk.

I understand the whole superhuman thing, as I have experienced it, oh, maybe once or twice before, however, most of my decisions are made late at night so I end up staying up all night thinking more about them, preparing for them, and then feeling too exhausted to do them when I wake up the next day.

I have much more fun if I fly by the seat of my pants and don't try to plan something to death. I am too big of a worrier and so I end up giving myself a headache and not feeling like going anywhere, if I have to think about it too long. But, I rarely really fly by the seat of my pants so... tells you how much fun I have.

That is awesome. I wish I could do that!!!! I never make first minute decisions. I can't. Not wired that way. I can make spur-of-the-moment, but those are usually really small and simple like... skip all the housework, let's just turn on some music and dance (yeah. simple). For any type of travel (even to the store) with my 3 tiny psychos, I have to have lots of planning...how many snacks, diapers, wipes, drinks to pack; how will I maneuver my children through a parking lot, a store, my friend's house without something getting broken or someone dying or disappearing. I can't even get to church on Sunday morning (my hubby is in meetings) without extensive "think it through" time.
