Alexander's Day Was a Piece of Pie Compared To...

This.

Oh, and the gaping hole, you ask?

It was only a horse's head.

A horse who, from the smell and look of the inside of the car, exploded on impact.

And head-butted my husband, knocking him briefly unconscious.

While simultaneously filling his eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and all exposed skin with tiny bits of glass from what was once the windshield.

(because don't let "safety" glass fool you. While it does NOT break into large sections and cut your legs off, it DOES shatter into glass dust that infests every crack and crevice of everything on the planet - or at least your house)

A "free range" horse. Which means wild. Which means no one owns it. Which means this could happen to YOUR husband, too. Or your grandma. Only, usually people aren't so lucky, and they DIE from horse-related accidents such as this. Or are paralyzed. Yeah. Horses are freakin' huge. Is it just me, or should there NOT be free range horses running around in large groups?

A horse whose post-mortem photograph my husband was exceedingly relieved to hear had been taken by his brother (because in all the bleeding, going into shock, calling me to tell me he was getting into an ambulance, and being strapped to a gurney, he somehow forgot to snap a picture of his own).

As in, more relieved than when the Dr. pronounced his eyes not permanently damaged.

Which struck me as odd.

But, whatever. I've known the guy for 13 years, so I'm pretty used to odd.

I mean, he hit a horse this morning, so...

Odd.

p.s. I was going to do a whole thing about our recent (we got home yesterday) trip to Houston, but this kind of trumped that.

p.s. also. Ty is fine. He would have gone back to work (or driven there from the accident - no joke. He told me he contemplated it. Um, did he notice the windshield?!) if I had let him. His eyes hurt, his head hurts, his neck hurts, and his skin hurts. But he is fine. And so very lucky.

Too bad we have to experience the unlucky to appreciate the lucky.

Woah Nellie! Get it? "woah Nellie"? Anyhoo.....

Holy smokes! I am glad to hear your hubster is ok. What a freak accident.

P.S. I want to see the pictures your BIL took!

When I read that you were in the market for a new car, I just thought yours had died or something...never did I expect this!

I am so glad Ty is alright. I know what you must have been feeling as Andy totaled his Jeep (basically turned it into a station wagon) and I was informed by my principal that he was taken to the hospital.

Miracles do happen.

I'm so glad Ty is OK! That is crazy scary. We have deer but a horse? I can't believe there is a place in this country where wild horses are still running around! I thought that was only in the movies. Good luck in the car search. Hope Ty's eyes and head and neck and skin feel better soon.

Yikedy Yikes. That is so scary. I'm so glad Ty is alive and well. That would scar me for life. I don't think I could ever drive again after an incident like that. Good thing Ty is tough.... probably the toughest guy I've ever known. You guys have been freak accident magnets for a while now, haven't you?

Yeah, like Michelle said, let's see the pictures.

And I can't wait to hear about your Trip to Texas. Was it good?

Oh my GOODNESS. Call me morbid, but I'd actually really like to see the picture of this unlucky horse.. I can't believe that happened to you guys. What are the odds.. . May the car gods smile down upon you, and bless you with the quick, painless purchase of another.

Oh my heavens! I'm so glad he's okay! I guess that horse learned a hard lesson. Too morbid? oops.
I'm with you: there should be no such thing as free range horses (or cows).

I'm sorry that you guys have to deal with the inconvenience of everything that comes with an accident. that just sucks.. but what a blessing that Ty's alright (more or less). You do have the craziest stories.

Oh my goodness!! What a miracle he's okay! I'm so glad for that and that after the fact, we get to hear the story with your splashes of sarcasm.

(this is Joel) HOLY COW..or uh, HORSE! That has got to be the craziest thing I've seen. Hooray for Ty. I didnt know that my respect level for another living human being could get any higher than mine was already for that man...but this...well THIS puts him in a whole new bracket in my book that not even I knew I had. Seriously. Woah dude. I'm so glad he's alright!

Ty should stuff and mount it. I mean, how many guys win in a head butting contest with a horse?

HOLY Horse!! Crazy! I am so glad that he is ok!! Sorry about your car and the expensive ambulance ride...but so glad your husband is alive! Hope he is feeling ok!

Oh MYYYY. Thank goodness he's okay. I am telling you, fight tooth and nail to not pay for that horse that belonged to nobody. So scary. Plus insurance lameness, and finding a new car... ugh, it's going to go on for a while... but like a pregnancy, it can't last forever. I'm just trying to make up for my dismall comments.

Crazy! I have never heard of such a thing! Im glad your hubby is ok and you just have to worry about the car, not an injured husband.
I'm anxious to hear about your Texas trip! I had no idea. That sounds like fun and warm!
Love ya!

Wow. Very odd. I'm glad he's okay! My husband had a run-in with a wild horse when he was young. He was 7 and in the back yard looking at a wild horse (he lived in the boonies) when the horse decided to BITE HIS HEAD. Luckily Sam's dad saw it and immediately ran out and punched the horse between the eyes to it would let go of his son's head. Sam still has scars on his face. Wild horses are evil.
