Alarming

The other night our fire alarms went off.

Not the "chirp" sound that happens when batteries are low.

They went OFF (why is it not 'went ON'?).

And before I could gain enough consciousness to simultaneously throw up and have a heart attack, my first thought was,

"Great. I am going to have to walk outside with no clothes on."

Then I reached over and turned on my bedside lamp.

And then silence.

The alarms turned off. For no reason.

While Ty and I scouted the house for clues/smoke/fire, I contemplated the fact that apparently fashion is more important to me than a lot of things.

I do not deal well with crisis. That is apparent.

Also apparent: I need a robe.

p.s. has your fire alarm ever gone off for no reason and then shut itself off? why does it do that? I need to know, cause it really did make me feel like I was going to throw up and have a heart attack, and I would like to avoid that as much as possible.

p.p.s. my children didn't even bat an eyelash. the poor little dears slept through it.

In the Riverton home ours went off two or three times. We decided the batteries were low one time. Mark had to climb up on a ladder and pull the battery out. And then we noticed it seemed to go off if it got extra cold. That is irritating though and deffinitely a 'heart racing' experience.

I'm glad you didn't have to run outside in your undies. I think, though, that I would almost rather run outside in my unders than in my ratty disgusting red (yes, red--I don't know what I was thinking) robe. So...

That sunset is beautiful!

Ours did that once last year! It was definately hair raising - but only for ME cause Jeff and the kids ALL slept through it. I had to wake Jeff up and infuse him with my panic so he'd investigate. We spent half the night and never found anything suspicious either. Crazy. I am ashamed to admit that what I'd wear out to our rendezvous point WAS among my immediate thoughts too. Underwear aren't going to cut it -- even in an emergency!
Great photo, Drea!

Why isn't it "On"? That is weird.

if it is any comfort, ours has done that as well. And what did we do? We thought it was our house alarm and turned it off, only to realize that it was the fire alarm, that soon afterwards, it turned itself off. And, hours later, we asked ourselves...if it had been our house alarm--or fire alarm--shouldn't we have sprinted to our children to rescue them from an intruder or fire? No, we would rather them sleep peacefully through the night.
