Take That, January!

And this:

After weeks of broken record "no"-ing to all outdoor-going requests, today my children finally noticed a sliver of daylight peaking through my resolve, slipped a fingernail in, and pried it open. I DID manage to convince them to wear shoes, but alas, coats were a lost cause. Samera brought me this twig, reminding me of the olive branch brought back to the arc by Noah's pet dove (right? sometimes I make things up in my mind and can't remember the real story):

Then they proceeded to dine on the last patch of snow in the front yard. Leaf, dirt, grass, bum crack and all:

It was a much-needed respite from the monotonous gloom of January (the sunshine, not the bum crack - that can be seen ANY month of the year). Because, as we all know, January is the coldest, yuckiest, longest month. Well, it's at least tied for first place with February and March. I'll give it that.

Granted, my BACK yard (which is always in the shade) still looks like this:

Which isn't snow, but is whapakajillions of ice particles deposited by the spooky fog last week.

And my back porch is a jungle of beautiful white crystals resembling rice crispies (spell check says, "crispiness" - stupid spell check):

(which makes me REALLY long for a great camera with an even greater lens)

It's the best of both worlds. If the best means a winter wonderland in back and a warm-enough-to-not-wear-a-jacket land in the front. Kind of like a mullet.

Okay, I'm really reaching now. Time to...

post.

I'm laughing again! You are so funny, girl! Those ice pictures are GREAT! You are exploring that camera of yours and soon you'll be ready for a fancy one.

Waaaaa Hooooo! A POST!

Agreed with Sharlee. Without fail you have made me laugh. At least you HAVE sun. The weather channel says that we will have sun tomorrow. . .I am hopeful (not just because everyone used that word today).

Thank you for my entertainment. . .

Guess what my word verification is? "mumstier". I need to keep a list of word verifications and start to add them to my vocabulary. I shall start now . . .

I can't wait until the mumstiers bloom.

Oh, and I totally got the mullet thing. Me and mullets go way back cuz, you know, I grew up in Payette and truth be told, I once HAD one.

I think your posts get funnier every time! I love those pictures of the backyard. And I love how you called your yard a mullet. Very clever! I'm glad you and the kids could get outside. I totally understand how you've been feeling. I've come very close to losing my mind on more than one occasion.

your posts always "crack" me up! Thanks for sharing the sunshine! And in answer to your Q on my blog: yep, I am 37 1/2 weeks (who's counting?) prego, so any day now would be great!

haha!! the mullet image had me laughing pretty good. My husband is always talking about mullets, it's hard on him having little to no hair. He worships those with mullets. haha. Your posts are always so good! Mine- lame. I am like here's what we did and here's a picture.blah.

Oh and your comment on my blog- yeah you know me pretty well...I am actually doing fairly well this week. I have only thrown up once or twice a day-which is great! I am thinking they must be boys cuz I am not nearly as sick...who knows, that's just what I am guessing. But then again I have also been on Zofran this pregnancy and I wasn't with my girls, maybe that's why I haven't been AS sick. But thanks again for your offer!! YOu are great to want to help out.

My front and back yard are gross! So much snow, ice, and wind; I'll never see the green of grass again-until we move back to ID in July anyway. Can you mix marshmellows with those ice crispies- that would make me happy- yummy goey treats outta yukky cold snow? I agree- Jan-March are useless to me. Bring me the summer sun!

You must have a south facing house too. I like it because the snow always melts off our driveway and sidewalk fast, but I don't like it because our backyard always has snow until about June I swear. Yes, now that I am grown I see that I would love California weather. Every time I talk to my sister, the weather is nice there, no matter what time of year it is. Never too hot, never too cold. But I think I am Utah bound for life... so I need to get use to the weather!

Andrea, You're so funny. I need a neighbor like you in the middle of winter to keep me laughing.

Hey, thanks for your interest in my writing endeavors. I'm not so sure about any break-throughs. I haven't had any break-downs, though. Right now I'm kind of focusing on writing in my journal. I figure that's a good place to start. I've also brainstormed some things I would like to write: poem ideas, life stories to put on paper, story ideas. I think some of them are good ideas, but I still feel pretty insecure about my abilities. But I'm trying not to get discouraged because that will only make me give up. Have you looked into taking a creative writing class? That would be fun to do one with you.

I thought I had left a comment about this post, but I think I had crafted a response in my mind and then (shockingly) was distracted by my children, the phone or some other nonsense. So I think the pictures are adorable and the rice krispies are freakish, but cool. And your mullet reference made my day. Also, as far as blogger block as of late, it has been ridiculous. I was half tempted to take a video of me sitting in front of my computer with a blank stare on my face to prove my point. And, although it hasn't gotten tons better, I think I am over the hump. And now I am patiently waiting for you to join me on the other side!

I love the mullet metaphor! I would have never put those two together. So, I followed you here from your comment Amber's blog-you two have the most fun writing styles.
By the way, I ran into one of your cousins when I was getting my license plates here in Texas. Something Jensen (his wife was Allison) Small world!
