Next Month, Let's Do Blue!

I will be away from my desk for several days, and could NOT leave that indecent excuse for a blog post up until then!

On a more wholesome note, here are some St. Patrick's Day photos to keep those Irish fires burnin' for a few more days:

Am I the only one who thinks St. Patrick's Day is the easiest holiday ever? I mean, how many other holidays make you look like a rockstar in the eyes of your children for doing nothing more than putting food coloring in everything?

I'm all for instituting more holidays (at least one/month) that are celebrated exclusively by color. Oh, or how about a day dedicated to stripes? Or polka dots? This could be fun!

Who's with me?

Also, I am now accepting suggestions for April Fools Day jokes I can play on my children. So let's hear it in the comments. I'm expecting big things from you!

Here's an idea I got from Jack Handy: "One thing kids love is to be tricked. For instance, last week I told my nephew we would go to Disneyland. We drove to an old burned-out warehouse. 'Oh!' I said, 'Disneyland burned down!' and then we drove home. He cried and cried, but deep down, I think he thought it was a good one."
Okay, that was from memory, not verbatim, but you get the idea, right?

Also, way to go on being "fun mom"!

I am a lover of Luck Day too! And for the same reasons you have so eloquently presented: my kids think I'm all kinds of fun and amazing just for making a couple of things green!
I found some great April Fool ideas on the Family Fun website. My personal favorites: Hot Chocolate Havoc and Chicken Not Pie.

I think the best April fools joke (and easiest) would be to not get up to get breakfast ready or wake kids up for school. Then you could sleep in and then party all day. No food coloring necessary.

I've never played April Fools jokes on my kids. Probably because I can never trick anyone, but who is easier to trick than kids? So, I better not be lazy this year. Maybe I'll steal an idea from one of your clever comment leavers.

I try to turn all Holidays into color-only events.
A couple of years ago for April fools, I made meatloaf in muffin tins topped with pink mashed potatoes....lovely cupcakes for dinner----psyche! And hamburgers for dessert (cookies i made to look just like buns...slider-sized with peppermint patties inside). I try to go really simple (and careful) on the tricks. I got short-sheeted as a child...before I really got what jokes were. I cried and cried that my mom would do something mean to me. Because of the trauma (which is hilarious now, but i still remember the pain), i just try to involve my kids in doing lots and lots of tricks on dad!

Andy, I am finally getting around to re-finishing my kitchen table just like yours because I loved it so...and I notice you have already re-painted it RED?

Did you do it the same way? I just finished sanding it, and so I'm ready for your advice. I love to learn from other people's mistakes. ;)

I have another little piece of furniture that I picked up at a yard sale. I want to paint it some fantastic fun color like you did with your little orange cabinet. It will go up against a dark red wall. Color suggestions?
