Court is Adjourned

I judge people.

Everyone.

Even you.

(but if it makes you feel any better, if I know you and like you- or if you read my blog - I have a hard time finding fault with you)

It's ironic. Especially when you know me. Or see the picture at the top of this post. Yikes.

I have never worried about this particular character flaw.

(I mean, set against so many others, it is the least of my worries)

In fact, I usually believe that everyone is the same: judgey.

But I have had several conversations lately that have challenged this belief. And made me feel like a jerk.

And so I have finally decided to go one entire week without judging anyone.

I am unsure of how to go about it, but I am going to do it. Starting now.

So, if you repeatedly let your kids interrupt us while we are having a discussion, I won't judge.

If you are an adult and your ring tone is a too-popular song sung by a skanky girl, I won't judge.

If you name your child a name on the "Most Popular Baby Names" list because you think it's cute, I won't judge.

If your blog is braggy, I won't read it. But I won't judge, either.

If you use 'their', 'they're', and 'there' interchangeably on facebook, I won't judge.

If all you talk about is running, or dieting, or your children, or your labor and delivery, I won't judge.

And especially if you are a real chore to be around, I will not judge.

Boy, it's going to be a tough week!

How does one stop judging people who are just asking for it?

No, really. If you know, please tell me. In your comment.

So nice to know i am not the only one. How do we get over it? Life seems to do a a great job of teaching this one. My kids have done just about EVERYTHING I swore my kids would never do as I critically judged the disciplining tactics of the parents. And. many of the women I have judged harshly have turned around and done some incredibly kind and unselfish act for either me or someone I love, making me realize how much better than me they are.

Good luck, Andrea!

My suggestion: hire a nanny and sleep for 7 days (at least that's what I'd have to do). Good luck, and who knows, maybe you'll start to see the good in others more than the bad. Hmmm, makes me want to try it.

Well, for the sake of self-improvement, I'll have to allow this, but I just like you the way you are.
And no, I wasn't talking about you on that mean fbook comment I made, I was actually talking specifically about people who are not related to me in anyway but by law.... don't tell...
And I obviously need to try this week of not judging, too. When i'm in a better mood :)

I can't comment. I'm too scared.

No, you can do it! And, if it makes you feel better, you are motivating me to do better too! Did I make any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors? Good luck!

O dear Andrea you are too funny. I am writing a list of "not-to-do's" (or To Do's) while visiting Andrea in Oct.

P.S. I judge husband/wifes who share facebook pages. Weird.
